Because each appliance has its own indications and contraindications, finding and fitting the appliance that’s best for you will require an initial consultation, the cost of the appliance, and an annual review.
Paul’s recognised accredited training and qualifications allow him to assess each patient individually- taking into account your needs, lifestyle and preferences. We have also established a close working relationship with local ENT and Respiratory consultants to ensure the best results.
It’s perfectly normal to be a bit nervous about talking to someone about these issues. To make things easier we are always happy to have a quick chat with you over the phone to help put you at ease before you commit to a full consultation.
Phone us on 028 3755 2000 and we will arrange a suitable time for Dr. Paul Reaney to call you back.
Pre-consultation evaluation of your sleep/snoring pattern and history
Evaluation of your daytime levels of tiredness and advice to ensure you are compliant with DVLA requirements
Full dental exam, including the health and condition of your teeth, gums, tongue and soft tissue to determine the best appliance for you

If necessary we will provide Sleep Study Monitors to record your sleep patterns before treatment begins. Our annual review charge is £45 and this includes a full mouth examination and comparison to original records to evaluate any jaw or tooth movement as well as to confirm appliance fit and effectiveness.

‘I have always appreciated the importance of a quality night’s sleep for physical and mental well being- not only for the individual but for their sleeping partner and family as well. Each of my patients has a story of how their sleep disorder was destroying their relationships, health, energy and their ability to think and work clearly.
To see the life changing effects better sleep has on a family is the most rewarding outcome I have experience - it drives me in my enthusiasm to learn more and be the best.’

Believe it or not, a dentist may well be the first person to notice the presence of a sleep disorder.
In fact, one of the first signs of sleep apnea can be the grinding of teeth, which can cause your teeth to wear down- becoming more susceptible to cavities- or even break. Dentists are usually the first to notice these symptoms.
As well as being a fully qualified dentist Paul has also completed the recognised training that allows him to screen patients for Sleep Disordered Breathing in accordance with current guidelines and provide oral appliances to treat snoring and sleep apnoea.
Your chances of suffering from sleep apnoea or snoring increases if you suffer from:
Obesity
Asthma
Diabetes

There are a number of over the counter (OTC) options but OTC dental devices bear little resemblance to custom-made ones.
With OTC devices you are basically self-diagnosing and buying a ‘one-size fits all’ appliance whereas professionally fitted appliances can be adjusted to:
Accommodate changes in the condition of your teeth
Improve the fit or retention
Support posterior teeth to help manage grinding and support the jaw joint
Prevent unwanted forces on the teeth
Reduce mouth breathing during sleep and encourage breathing through the nose which is healthier and more effective
The biggest issue is, if an OTC device doesn’t work for you, there’s a real danger you may believe a custom-made device won’t work either. This is called a ‘false negative’ and it could literally be life threatening.
Bottom line: You should always be professionally screened for sleep apnoea/snoring before using ANY dental device.
